Nine months after assuming the Office, Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan on step down from his position and submitted his resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind amid speculations about him re-entering politics ahead of the general elections 2019.

President of India said that President has accepted the resignation of Mizoram Governor. Further President has directed Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi to take additional charge of Mizoram Governor following K Rajashekharan’s resignation.

Kummanam Rajasekharan who had been associated with RSS for long had been given the Governor’s Charge in May 2018. Before his appointment as the Governor, he was BJP Kerela Chief since 2015.

His resignation came in the backdrop when BJP Kerela State Unit pressing party’s Central Leadership to recall him in the political venture. State Unit wants K Rajasekharan to take on Congress Sitting Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram Parliamentary Seat. A Senior Leader also claimed that K Rajasekharan is also interested to peruse his politics if the party approves his request.

In 2014 General Elections, BJP’s Candidate O Rajagopal managed to pose a tough fight on the seat. however, Tharoor managed to retain his seat with a slim margin of 15,000 votes in a three-way fight. While For 2019 General Elections, The CPI under LDF has already nominated former minister C Divakaran as its candidate from the Thiruvananthapuram parliamentary seat.

BJP State Unit believes that amidst Sabarimala Controversy, Saffron Party may bag this seat.

During his term as the BJP’s top post, he has actively managed the party organization and manages to open tally for his party in the state polls. However, amidst heavy factionalism, he was sacked from the Top Post in 2018 and was appointed as Governor of Mizoram.

His resignation came weeks after BJP President Amit Shah visited Palakkad. Reportedly he had held discussions with top State ideologues who backed K Rajasekharan’s re-entry to politics.

In a report by Hindustan Times, In a meeting with Shah, RSS idealogues cited many such examples including the former Kerala governor Nikhil Kumar, who resigned from his office in 2014 to contest from Aurangabad in Bihar.

Nikhil Kumar who was earlier posted as Delhi Top Cop had however defeated.

Sources claimed BJP believes that if Rajasekharan is allowed to re-enter politics, many governors would urge for same demand. Sources further revealed that Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala is among those seeking re-entry into active politics.
