The third day of the monsoon session also began with a stormy discussion over various issues raised by the opposition. While Mulayam Singh Yadav raised the border issue with China, another Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agarwal demanded a pay hike for the members of Parliament.

On Wednesday, Naresh raised the issue of salaries of the MPs, he said that even the MLAs are being paid more than the MPs. He further added that they were not begging for anything but were only demanding for what they deserved under the 7th Pay Commission. Naresh pointed out that the salaries are lesser than their secretaries also.

Talking about the Tamil Nadu MLAs he said that, they have given themselves a generous hike of Rs. 50,000, taking their monthly salaries to Rs. 1.05 lakh. While the pensions of the MLAs have also gone up to Rs 20,000 from Rs 12,000 and the local area development fund to develop the respective constituencies was increased from Rs. 2 crore to Rs. 2.6 crore.

Naresh Agarwal questioned the government why can’t the salaries of the MPs be raised?
