Poll strategist Prashant Kishor declines to join Indian National Congress

The Indian National Congress announced on Tuesday that Prashant Kishor has declined its offer to join the party, ending speculations surrounding the poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s possible entry into India’s oldest political party.

Prashant Kishor has reacted after the decision not to join the Congress. He said that I have turned down the offer to join the Congress and take responsibility for the elections. Prashant Kishor further said, “In my humble opinion, more than me the party needs leadership and collective will to fix the deep rooted structural problems through transformational reforms.”

Just before Prashant Kishor’s tweet, Congress said that election strategist Prashant Kishor was offered to join the party by becoming part of the ‘Empowered Action Group 2024’, but he declined.

Party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted, “Following a presentation & discussions with Sh. Prashant Kishor, Congress President has constituted a Empowered Action Group 2024 & invited him to join the party as part of the group with defined responsibility. He declined. We appreciate his efforts & suggestion given to party.”

Before this, several rounds of meetings were held between Prashant Kishor and the Congress leadership. After this, Congress President Sonia Gandhi formed a committee to consider the suggestions of Prashant Kishor. This committee submitted the report to Sonia Gandhi recently.

The Congress performed extremely poorly in the recently concluded assembly elections in five states. Since then, the Congress continued talks with Prashant Kishor. The party is hoping for a revival in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, the Trinamool Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are all set to play its role in the opposition.

Prashant Kishor in 2014, played a major role in Narendra Modi’s rise to the prime minister’s chair, has, in recent days, worked with regional political parties, helping them win in their respective states. He recently worked with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (Andhra Pradesh), Arvind Kejriwal (Delhi), Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal) and MK Stalin (Tamil Nadu), among others.
