Superstar Rajnikanth on Friday said that he will contest the Tamil Nadu assembly elections is 2021 if the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government falls in the Lok Sabha elections 2019.

When the media persons asked the actor-turned-politician if he will contest the elections in case the AIADMK loses in the general elections, Rajnikant said that ” Whenever the announcement will be made, I will be ready.” When questioned if he will take the decision based on the 18 assembly segments bypolls outcome that was held on Thursday, he said that he will decide after May 23.

In a previous statement, Rajnikant announced that he will not be contesting the Lok Sabha elections. He also assures people that his target is the election commission. He said that he is not supporting any political party and thus all the parties should refrain from using his photo or his outfit logo in the political campaign.

Previously Rajinikanth said that he will not float a party by the next assembly polls in Tamil Nadu and will contest from all the 234 assembly seats in the state.

Rajnikant joined the politics in December 2017. Since then there has been much speculation over his political alliances. He made his own party and merged his fan clubs to form Rajini Makkal Mandram. He joined politics after the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa. He said that he would take on the political plunge in the state whose politics is dominated by Dravidian majors DMK and AIADMK.

Tamil Nadu voted for 38 parliamentary constituencies and bypolls to 18 assembly constituencies on Thursday. The results for the 17th Lok Sabha will be announced on May 23.
