In a fresh turn of events, the JD (U) leader and former Rajya Sabha member Sharad Yadav, has announced the formation of his own party.

A New political party on the card

Sharad’s close aide and former Rajya Sabha member Ali Anwar announced on Wednesday that they had applied to the Election Commission for a new party. The verdict of Election Commission will be out in a week. Ali told that the fight against the Janata Dal (U) will not stop. He informed that the case would be presented in the next hearing in Delhi High Court on March 1.  “After taking permission from Sharad Ji hundreds of our supporters signed a letter and applied for a new party. All formalities have been completed. We have suggested five names. The word ‘Janata’ is part of all the possible names as it is close to our hearts,” he said.

The turn of events

Ali Anwar and Sharad Yadav were ousted from the Rajya Sabha in December last year. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, the ex-officio Chairman of the Upper House, communicated it after examining the petition filed by JD (U). The JD (U) in its report stated that the two leaders voluntarily gave up the party membership by defying party directives and attending opposition party’s events. Nitish Kumar’s dismissed the grand RJD-Congress alliance to tie-up with BJP. Consequently, the Sharad faction shook hands with the opposition. Mr Yadav was elected last year and was scheduled to be a seating member till 2022.
