Telangana Congress Top Brass on Thursday held a review meeting with several of its leaders to deliberate upon the reasons behind the party’s poor performance in the recently held national polls.

Speaking to media, Congress leader and former MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy who also attended the meeting said that it has been decided that concrete steps will be taken to strengthen the party in the state.

The Leaders who met to introspect the poll disaster also decided to form a “Congress Loyalists Forum”, he added.

The meeting was attended by top state leaders in including former MP V Hanumantha Rao and the party’s disciplinary action committee chairman M Kodanda Reddy, among others.

It should be noted that the Congress suffered a major setback in the Telangana Assembly polls held in December last year despite stitching an alliance with TDP and others. It could only bag 19 seats out of the 119 seats.

However, a group of 12 Congress MLAs has recently quit the party and merged it with the ruling TRS in the Telangana Assembly. The development is seen as a big embarrassment for the party which had in national polls faced a humiliating defeat. Congress in Telangana bagged 3 Lok Sabha Seats out of 17.

After the merger episode, Congress is left with 6 MLAs and is now no more a second largest party as Asaduddin Owaisi‘s AIMIM have 7 Legislators in the Telangana Assembly.
