The West Bengal ruling Trinamool Congress on Monday filed a complaint with the Poll Commission against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly evoking ‘horse trading’ while addressing a poll rally in Serampore on Monday.

Speaking on a rally on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that 40 MLAs of TMC are in touch with him and will change loyalties after May 23. Modi while slamming the TMC Supremo and West Bengal CM said, ‘Didi (Mamata Banerjee) nothing can save you, Lotus will bloom everywhere after May 23 and at least 40 TMC MLAs will join Bharatiya Janata Party, You will lose’.

However, the remark irked the West Bengal ruling party who moved to the Poll Office with a complaint. TMC MP Derek O’Brien took to Twitter to attack PM Modi and said not even a counselor with go with you after May 23.

He, in a tweet, said, ‘Expiry Babu PM, let’s get this straight. Nobody will go with you. Not even one councilor. Are you election campaigning or horse trading! Your expiry date is near. Today, we are complaining to the Election Commission. Charging you with horse trading

‘The complaint against Modi for horse-trading has been filed with ECI’, He added.

‘Encouraging horse trading, by hinting that the members of the AITC will cross over to the BJP, and using this lie to influence the voters and using this lie to persuade the voters’, TMC said in a letter to Poll Body.

Demanding action TMC further stated in the letter, “You are thus requested to ask PM Narendra Modi for evidence in support of his statement, failing which his nomination should be canceled for violation of the Model Code of Conduct by making such provocative and undemocratic statements.”

Earlier in the day both the parties knocked the Poll Commission over the Violence in Asansol during the voting for Phase- IV. Just like in the initial three phases, Voting in the fourth phase of the state held amidst clashes and violence. Over 66% voter turnout was recorded in the state

General Elections 2019 is being held across seven phases starting April 11 to May 19. All 42 parliamentary seats of the state will go to polls in all seven phases till May 19.

Phase-V is slated for May 6. Counting of the votes will be held on May 23.
