BJP, on Sunday, announced the names of its candidates for by-polls in Karnataka. BJP has decided to field Avinash Jadhav in Chincholi and Chikkanangowdar from Kundagol.

The BJP has decided to field Umesh Jadhav’s son, Avinash Jadhav from Chincholi and Chikkanagowdar from Kundagol,” BJP spokesperson S Prakash told PTI.

BJP announced the names of its candidates Avinash Jadhav and SI Chikkanagowdar to contest from the seats Chincholi and Kundagol respectively. Avinash Jadhav and SI Chikkanagowdar will be contesting against Subhash Rathod and Kusumavathi Shivalli. the by-polls are slated to happen on May 19.

SI Chikkanagowdar is BS Yeddyurappa kin. He had lost the 2018 assembly elections to late Kusumavathi Shivalli by 634 votes. Congress’ candidate in Chincholi was a part of the BJP for many years but quit the party to join Congress recently.

“I may not be able to efficiently discharge my duties as the people’s representative. I, therefore, turned down the offer. We, in fact, wanted to field somebody outside our family. But, the people of the constituency were keen on seeing Mr. Avinash as the party candidate,” said Umesh Jadhav talking about his son Avinash’s candidature.

“Mr. Yeddyurappa told me that if we deny party ticket to Mr. Umesh Jadhav’s family for Chincholi byelection, it would send a wrong message and generate distrust about BJP among Congress MLAs who were ready to resign from their Assembly memberships and join BJP. He requested me to sacrifice Chincholi ticket and help him attract as many MLAs from the ruling coalition as possible so that he could form the BJP government,” he said.
