A two-day meeting is being organised by the Centre starting from 5 July to review the progress of the Urban Development schemes implemented by the Union Territories. Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will be heading the meeting on the second day. He has already reviewed the progress of the schemes in 22 sates, while The progress of schemes in Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Punjab, Telangana and West Bengal is still to be reviewed.

Lieutenant Governors (LGs) of Delhi, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, and Lakshadweep alomg with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy will be present for the meeting.

On the first day of the meeting discussions will be held with different officials form the Union Territoriies regarding the progress of the Urban Development schemes that are, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Smart City Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) and the problems that they are facing to implement these schemes.

The government has already granted investments for the five-year mission period for all the seven UTs for the development of basic necessities like water supply, sewerage and urban transport. The main agenda during the meeting will be focus on sanitation and on achieving the target of declaring all cities ODF cities as only three of the 16 towns in these UTs having been declared open defecation free so far.
