South Africa won by a very big margin against the winner of the last World Cup, England.

They trashed England by a margin of 229 runs, and by this loss, they made it way more difficult for England to reach the semi-finals.

England has until now lost two matches, one against New Zealand and the other against Afghanistan.

As this was their third loss in the World Cup, it was also a big one.

This loss affected their net run rate (NRR) badly.

Match Details

The 20th match of the World Cup was going to be played at Wankhede.

The match was between South Africa and England.

South Africa has been in great form in this World Cup, it may be batting or bowling.

England won the toss and was elected to the field first.

South Africa Innings

Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks opened the innings for South Africa.

Reece Topley took the wicket of Quinton in the second ball of the match only.

Rassie van der Dussen came in to bat as he and Reeza started to form an important partnership.

As the match went on, both of them also completed their half-centuries and were going well together.

Adil Rashid broke their partnership as he took the wicket for Rassie.

He later also took the wicket of Reeza, and Heinrich started to score runs.

Heinrich started to play a good innings from one end as wickets were falling from the other end.

Marco, in the end, started to support him as he completed his half-century.

Marco also completed his half-century as Heinrich completed his century.

The ending knocks by them took South Africa to a total of 399/7.

England Innings

Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan opened the innings for England.

They both were able to give a great start to their teams, and Lungi Ngidi took the wicket of Jonny.

Marco Jansen, coming from the other end, took two wickets in two overs.

The England team was losing wickets in short intervals of time as none of the batsmen were able to score runs.

In the end, Gud Atkinson and Mark Wood played some short knocks, but it wasn’t enough to win the match.

Gerald Coetzee took three wickets, and Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen took two wickets each, as SA won the match.
