Google is releasing a fall over-the-air update to Wear OS that focuses on speed and core experiences.

Smartwatches are turning out to be very handy and useful in this modern world. Day by day we are witnessing increased functionalities and more support to apps. With an increase in such things, your watch must be fast enough so that you don’t get interrupted enjoying services on your wrist.

Keeping that in mind Google is coming with a new update which increases the speed of its OS by 20%.

Not only speed but after the update the OS will also support Snapdragon Wear 4100 and Wear 4100+ chips. The new Snapdragon chips boast of up to 85 percent faster performance and up to 25 percent lesser power consumption, compared to the Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform.

You will also get some interface changes as the weather app will have a new interface. You’ll also find “more intuitive” controls for watch modes and workouts, Google said

The new Wear OS will bring new features like the 20-second handwash timer so that you stay clean and germ-free in this COVID-19 situation.

Google is not only providing new updates and faster functionality. They are making sure that developers do not have any trouble while developing apps for wearable devices.  They will be making improvements to Android Studio, Kotlin, and Jetpack libraries. It has also released the Android WearX  Release Candidate build to enable easy building and testing of wearable apps.

Google has confirmed that this new update is based on Android 11. The current one is based on the outdated Android 9. Not sure about when this update will roll out but it is expected to launch by the year-end. Apple and Samsung are way ahead in the smartwatch race and this update will maybe help Google in some catching up.
