Alcatel has launched two new budget-segmented smartphones at IFA Berlin. The devices offer niche build quality and best in class hardware.

Both Idol 5 and 5S offers similar design language with full metal unibody design and 2.5D curved glass on the front.

The Idol 5 is powered by MT6753 Octa-core SoC paired with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB onboard storage. The 5.2-inch FHD 1080p IPS LCD offers great viewing angle with real-life like colour reproduction. In terms of camera, the device is equipped with 13 MP rear-facing camera and an 5 MP front-facing camera with 720p video recording capability. The 2850 mAh non-user replaceable battery is expected to last for a complete working day without looking for a wall adapter. In terms of operating system, the device runs on Android Nougat with custom UI on the top.

The Idol 5S offers bit superior specifications compared to the Idol 5. The device is powered by Helio P20 Octa-core SoC, paired with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB onboard storage with a dedicated SD card slot. The device features 12 MP rear-facing camera and an 8 MP front-facing camera with 720p video recording capability. The display remains the same (5.2-inch FHD 1080p IPS LCD panel). The device runs on the same Android Nougat with custom UI on the top. Even the battery is identical (2850 mAh with fast charging capability).

The Idol 5 is priced €239.99 and comes in Black and metal silver colour option. The Idol 5S is slightly costlier at €399.99 and comes in only Dark grey colour option.
