Cat, the brand know for the rugged smartphones announces two new rugged smartphones in IFA Berlin 2017. These two devices will be the successors for the Cat S60, which featured thermal image sensing technology.

These devices don’t offer glass or metal build quality, instead, the devices are manufactured using high-quality Kepler material, which is dust proof and protect the phone’s internals from the accidental drops. The device does offer water and dust resistance feature as well. However, none of these devices feature finger print sensor, USB type C or Bluetooth 5.0.

Cat S41: According to the Caterpillar spoke person, the device offers “beyond IP 68″certification water resistance rating with MIL-STD 810G military standard certification.

The device is powered by Helio P20 Octa-core SoC, paired with 3 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 32 GB flash storage with a dedicated SD card slot (up to 2 TB). The Cat S41 features a 5 inch IPS LCD 1080p display with wet hands and glove hands input detection. The display of the phone is under the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The phone offers 13 MP main camera with PDAF and autofocus with 1080p video recording capability. However, the front-facing 8 MP camera can only capture a maximum of 720p videos at 30fps. The 5000 mAh battery on the device can last for two complete days on a single charge.

Cat S31: Cat S31 comes with a slightly smaller 4.7 inch HD display with 720p screen resolution, the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 will make sure that the device will not get scratches or crack on the normal usage. The device is powered by entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 Octa-core SoC, paired with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB onboard storage with a dedicated SD card slot (up to 128 GB).

On to the optics, the device is equipped with 8 MP rear-facing camera and a 2 MP front-facing camera. Even the Cat S31 features a 4000 mAh Li-ion can last for more than 48 hours on a single charge.

The Cat S41 is priced GBP 299 (INR 24,500) and the Cat S31 is priced GBP 399 (INR 33,000) respectively.

These devices are strictly for those who are looking for the ruggedness as their first criteria.
