Intel 10nm Sunny Cove ’10th Gen Ice Lake’ CPUs have recently been announced for laptops, and Intel claims that we can expect an 18% IPC improvement with some workloads showing an IPC improvement of up to 40% over Skylake architecture.
There are two chips listed: the Core i7-1065G7 (4 core / 8 thread) and a very early 6 core, 12 thread part with no codename.
The Core i7-1065G7 will operate at 3.7 GHz. For comparison, the Core i7-9700K with an overclocked frequency of 5.3 GHz.
The 6 core Sunny Cove part has a lower frequency of 3.6 GHz which is still as good as a 5.2 GHz Kaby Lake-S and the Ryzen 7 3800X at 4.7 GHz. If these results are true, then after several years of no major IPC gain, Intel might finally have a big architecture win coming in the form of Sunny Cove on 10th Gen processors.
Intel Ice Lake-U/G 10nm Mobility Processors Specs:
CPU Name | Cores / Threads | Base Clock | Boost Clock (Single Core) | Boost Clock (All Cores) | Graphics | TDP |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Intel Core i7-1065G7 | 4/8 | 1.3 GHz | 3.9 GHz | 3.5 GHz | Gen 11 (64 EUs) | 15W |
Intel Core i5-1035G7 | 4/8 | 1.2 GHz | 3.7 GHz | 3.3 GHz | Gen 11 (64 EUs) | 15W |
Intel Core i5-1035G4 | 4/8 | 1.1 GHz | 3.7 GHz | 3.3 GHz | Gen 11 (48 EUs) | 15W |
Intel Core i5-1035G1 | 4/8 | 1.0 GHz | 3.6 GHz | 3.3 GHz | Gen 11 (32 EUs) | 15W |
Intel Core i5-1034G1 | 4/8 | 0.8 GHz | 3.6 GHz | 3.3 GHz | Gen 11 (32 EUs) | 15W |
Intel Core i3-1005G1 | 2/4 | 1.2 GHz | 3.4 GHz | 3.4 GHz | Gen 11 (32 EUs) | 15W |
Intel has definitely not mentioned a 6 core, 12 thread part but if this leak is true, then we might get to see this chip in action in the coming year since the current year only has quad-core parts in the 10th Gen Ice Lake family. Lastly, we have a single Comet Lake part which is also an ES chip with 8 core and 8 thread configuration. The chip is based on the 14nm++ Coffee Lake design and not on the more advanced 10nm Sunny Cove architecture.
