Coinciding with Google I/O 2018, Qualcomm has announced a partnership with Google to implement next-generation OS Android P  for devices running on Snapdragon series of processors.

More details:

Following Google’s announcement, Qualcomm issued a press release regarding Android P. Specifically, it explains a partnership with Google. It reveals the two companies have been working on a “streamlined” version of Android P. The streamlined version is being designed for Snapdragon chipsets. Mike Genewich, director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. said:

“We are excited to work with Google to pre-integrate our software with Android P. This would make its production ready for OEMs. Through our strong relationship, Google and Qualcomm Technologies aim to expand the market for Android. It would also make it easier for OEMs to launch devices based on Snapdragon mobile platforms.”

Qualcomm has been working with Google ahead of the Android P developer preview release to “pre-integrate” support for the next version of the operating system with Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered devices, specifically devices with Snapdragon 845, 660 and 636. This it announced earlier this week. Qualcomm highlights its partnership with Google will accelerate the availability of key new Android P features. Moreover, it includes multi-camera support, display cutout support, indoor navigation, and HDR, among others.

” Project Treble is the new hardware interface architecture for Android. It is designed to make platform updates easier for device manufacturers. We’re excited to work closely with Qualcomm Technologies on a streamlined implementation of Android P for Snapdragon silicon. Our aim is to let device manufacturers bring the latest Android innovations more quickly,” said Dave Burke, Vice President of Engineering, Google, in the statement.
