Vivo has launched a new premium mid-range Android smartphone, the Vivo Y79 in China for CNY 2499 or ₹25,000. The device will be exclusively available in JD.com from 11th November.

In terms of design, the device follows the Vivo V7+ with full metal unibody solution with very narrow antenna bands on the top and bottom, which also plays an important role in the overall aesthetics of the smartphone. In terms of tech specifications, the device does offer impressive hardware for the price tag.

To start with the tech specifications, the Vivo Y79 offers a new 18:9 aspect ratio display with a 5.99-inch real estate. The display is protected by 2.5D curved tempered glass on the top with 2.5D finish. The device has no side bezels and a negligible top and bottom bezels, which gives a premium touché to the overall design of the device making it more appealing and visually pleasing. However, the resolution is kept at HD+ (720×1440 pixels) which is the bit we don’t appreciate.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the power-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa-core SoC, paired with 4 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 64 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot (up to 256 GB). As Vivo smartphones are also known as the music smartphone, the device is equipped with an AK4376A Hi-Fi Audio chipset, which offers high-quality audio output via headphones and earphones.

Coming to the camera capability, the device offers a massive 24 MP front-facing selfie camera with 1080p video recording capability. For the main board, the device offers 16 MP rear-facing main camera with PDAF and 4K video recording capability up to 30 frames per second. In terms of connectivity, the device offers dual SIM card slots with 4G LTE and VoLte on both the slots with support for dual-band WiFi and WiFi hotspot.

The standard features like 3.5 mm headphone jack, analogue FM radio, Bluetooth 4.2 are also present on the device. So, this has everything that one can expect from a premium mid-tier Android smartphone. The device runs on the forked version of Android Nougat with custom UI on the top, the company haven’t commented anything on the Oreo update.

Finally, the last but not the least aspect of any smartphone is the battery. The Vivo Y79 offers a moderate 3225 mAH Li-ion battery with Qualcomm Quick charge 3.0 support via micro USB port with USB OTG support.
