Telecom Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT)

After the rejection of Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular proposal of floor prices from TRAI, the incumbent operators have now approached to the telecom tribunal authority.

Today, Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular has filed a petition against the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) at the Telecom Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT). The hearing will be held on August 18 against the petition filed by the incumbent operators.

The complaint was lodged, as Jio had launched the inaugural free voice and data plan in September last year, and in December, extended the freebies up to March 2017. The newcomer has started charging its customers for the 4G service which it is providing from April 1.

Following this, Airtel and Idea moved the tribunal against the Trai order which allows the Mukesh Ambani-led telecom company to provide free services beyond the stipulated 90-day period.

On January 31, TRAI held that Jio’s free voice calls and data plan were not in violation of the regulatory guidelines.
