Telecom regulatory authority of India has made strict norms regarding the call-drops across the networks. Earlier, TRAI ordered to pay INR 1 for the users who experienced call drop. However, this time around TRAI has given strict instructions that, if network providers continue the violation, then TRAI could fine the provider starting from INR 1 lakh to 10 lakhs depending on the extension of violations.

The new norms will come into existence from October 1, 2017.

Here are the few comments from TRAI Chairman R S Sharma:

“We have proposed financial disincentive in the range of Rs. 1-5 lakh. It is a graded penalty system depending on the performance of a network,”

However, COAI’s (Cellular Operators Association of India) Director-General Rajan S Mathews has given his views on call-drop and call quality:

“As there are a lot of technicalities involved in call drops, if and when they occur, they do in pockets. Therefore, a collaborative approach is the most conducive one for resolving this challenge,’’

“However, it must be noted that the quality of service provided by a network is beyond the absolute control of a network service provider,”

Do you experience call drops, if does with which network provider are you entitled with?
