New Delhi, June 7: Kenneth Juster, the United States envoy to India, has on Thursday reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties with New Delhi, while praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for another straight term victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election.

According to ANI news reports, the envoy was speaking at the celebration held in US embassy in New Delhi to mark the US 243rd Independence Day.

Juster said, “The US-India partnership is durable and effective because it is based on a foundation of common values. These ideas have led millions of Indians to make their voices heard recently in the largest democratic exercise in world history.”

Juster has also stated Mike Pompeo, the US secretary of state, is also likely to pay an official visit to New Delhi, along with a high-level team of delegation, expected on June 26, just ahead of an event of the G-20 summit scheduled on June 28-29 in Osaka.

He added saying, “We congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his new Cabinet of Ministers, and all of the newly elected parliamentarians, and wish them the very best as they take up their positions. We look forward to working with India and strengthening our partnership.”

During Pompeo’s one-day official visit, he is likely to call on the Indian prime minister and hold a meeting with external affairs minister S Jaishankar.

Juster said the Independence Day marks an important event in history 75 years back, when about 50,000 Indian troops battled, along with American troops on the beaches of Normandy. He added, “The United States is honoured to stand with India today in reaffirming our commitment to free and democratic societies.”
