Doha, May 27: Qatar has said on Sunday it had received an invitation from Saudi Arabia to attend the emergency regional meetings to discuss rising tensions between the United States and Iran.

Saudi Arabia crown prince Mohammed bin Salman had invited the Arab Leagues members and Gulf leaders to the summits on May 30 in Makkah, but however, it was unclear whether Qatar was too invited to that event or not.

In an official statement, the Qatari government’s information office stated the nation’s emir “has received a written message” calling the government to attend the crisis meetings.

Qatari foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has received the invitation from Riyadh during a meeting with the secretary-general of the GCC, the statement added.

Al-Thani earlier called for a dialogue between the US and Iran in order to resolve the crisis between two nuclear nations.
