Taipei, August 8: An earthquake measuring 5.9 magnitudes on the Ritcher scale jolted the Afghan region of Hindu Kush on Thursday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) report.

As per the ANI reports, the quake occurred at around 6:15 am (IST) with its epicentre located 17 kilometres east to Farkhar in war-ravaged Afghanistan. The quake had a depth situated at 222.1 kilometres.

However, there were no immediate reports of any casualties and damage to structures and property caused by the earthquake.

The earthquake in Afghanistan marked the second tremor in one day.

Earlier, an earthquake measuring 5.8 magnitudes shook Taiwan’s northeastern coast nearly at 5:30 am (local time) which had its epicentre situated at 16 kilometres to the southeast of Su’ao province.

The tremor struck 10 kilometres below the earth’s surface, as per the reports of the USGS.

As per both the reports, the earthquakes were strong enough to disrupt buildings in Taipei, Taiwan’s capital. However, no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property were reported so far.
