Donald Trump’s second year anniversary as the US President was met with widespread protests all across the country.

Tens of thousands of anti-Trump demonstrators gathered on the streets of New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles and other major American cities to conduct coordinated marches opposing government policies made in his first year at White House.

Majority of these rallies were conducted by women calling out the President for his sexist outlook on several issues, particularly his public stance against abortion and reproductive health. Protesters also expressed solidarity with women who are reported to have allegedly faced sexual harassment by Trump before he assumed charge of the Oval Office.

Demonstrators also opposed the government’s recent actions against immigrants and minorities after it decided to scrap former President Barrack Obama’s ‘Dreamers’ program, which offers social protection and educational opportunities to illegal immigrants who came to the US as children. Donald Trump’s public remarks against Mexican workers and immigrants from the Middle East have always been a point of contention for his opponents.

Political observers saw these protests as an opportunity for the Democrats to consolidate sentiments against the incumbent Republicans during the upcoming crucial midterm elections scheduled for this November. Victory in these polls will help the Democrats take back control of the Congress and many state legislatures.

Donald Trump, on the other hand, responded to the demonstrations with a tweet calling out women protesters for ignoring the tremendous economic growth that has taken place in the country under his leadership.
