United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres has on Sunday, called for a “credible” probe into the controversy of murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the consulate of Saudi Arabia, in Istanbul.

According to news reports, while addressing a conference in Doha, Guterres said, “It is absolutely essential to have a credible investigation and to have the punishment of those,” while delivering a speech.

The UN chief also said that he had no information regarding the controversy of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder, but only knows what media has told and published in these days.

Jamal Khashoggi, a contributor to the Washington Post, was murder by a team of Saudi Arabians on October 2, in Saudi’s consulate Istanbul and then his body was dismembered.

Saudi Arabia repeatedly declined the Turkish demands over to extradite all suspects, who are connected to the killing of Khashoggi, a critic of Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia crown prince.

Ministry of foreign affairs, Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu said, “We haven’t received any new information or outcome of the investigation from the Saudi side.” He further said, “Turkey will not give up on this, we will go to the end.”

Early in this month, the minister has also said the Turkey is all over to a possible way to let UN investigate into the murder of Khashoggi which has provoked the whole globe. Since the incident, Riyadh has detained 21 Saudi citizen alleged for the connection with Khashoggi’s murder.

Despite the speculations that crown prince has ordered the killing of Khashoggi, the nation denied the involvement of crown prince into the controversy. The incident has damage international reputation of Riyadh, in fact France, Canada and the United States have also imposed sanctions on 20 Saudi nationals.
