Robin Uthappa announces retirement from all formats of cricket

Robin Venu Uthappa, 36, of India, has announced his retirement from all formats of the game.

He is a right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman and has represented India in T-20Is and ODIs.

Career:

Robin came into the limelight in the 2005 Challenger Trophy when he played an outstanding knock of 66 runs against India A.

In the same tournament, he played a match-winning knockoff of 100 runs against the same team, which paved his way to the big league.

He used to play for India B in the Challenger Trophy. Robin was also part of the U-19 team that won the Asia Cup.

Debut:

Uthappa made his One-Day International debut in the final match of the English tour of India.

He made the best of the chance as he scored 86 runs, which was the highest score for a debutant for India in a limited-overs match.

Robin was also selected for the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, in which he played an important role.

Indian Premier League (IPL)

He played for Mumbai Indians in his first edition of the IPL.

In the next season, he was swapped for Zaheer Khan and moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Robin was selected by Pune Warriors in the 2011 edition of the India Premier League.

He was bought for a whopping US$ 2.1 million, or approximately INR 9.4 crores.

Robin was the second most expensive player in that auction, trailing only Gautam Gambhir, who received $2.4 million from the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Despite the bad phase for the Pune Warriors, Robin remained their top scorer with 405 runs in 16 games.

He was drafted by the Kolkata Knight Riders for the next season.

In the 2020 season of the IPL, he was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 3 crore.

Later, he was traded to the Chennai Super Kings in January 2021 ahead of the 2021 IPL.

Chennai Super Kings paid a base price of $2 million for him in the 2022 IPL auction.
