A few months ago, Mercedes-Benz was really sceptical about the Convertibles and Estates. But finally, we have the all-new AMG SL which is, of course, a convertible with an aim to replace the truly capable AMG GTC and if we are not wrong, even the convertible S-Class.

Starting with the overall design language of the all-new Mercedes-AMG SL, it is really striking and the powerplant found inside is a potent unit. So, can we expect it to bring a revolution in the convertible segment? Not exactly, but maybe for some time! For now, let’s check out all the details related to this new beast that we have covered just for you down below.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • All-new Mercedes-AMG SL has finally made its global debut.
  • To be available with a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
  • It will act as a replacement for the capable AMG GT roadster.

Mercedes-AMG SL: What’s new?

Exterior & Design

The German marque claims that this new roadster stands at 4705mm in length, 1915mm (width) and 1359mm when we talk about the exact height. According to the spec sheet, it even gets an impressive wheelbase of 2700mm that makes it practical just like any other sedan.

One might mistake it with the AMG GTC from the back. However, the other three ends feel entirely different with lots of new panels. The front end definitely makes it unique with a sportier bumper, sleek LED headlamps, large Panamericana grille and massive air intakes. Coming to the side profile, the all-new Mercedes-AMG SL features a set of large alloy wheels and frameless doors that adds to the overall stance.

Let’s talk about another most crucial and important feature. Well, it is the fabric roof that is finished in triple layers and still weighs lesser than the metal roof that was offered earlier on the same model.

Interior & Features

Mercedes has decided to go with a familiar layout on the all-new SL but with a pinch of upgrades. For starters, it does sport a multifunction steering wheel, vertical 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 12.3-inch fully digital driver’s display just like what the brand offers on the regular S-Class.

To differentiate, it gets bucket seats that hold the passengers firmly at any given point in time.

Engine & Powerplant

For starters, it is available in two variants, namely – SL55 and SL63. Interestingly, both of them are available with a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine but with different tunes. The entry-level variant is known for producing 469HP and 700Nm while it is the latter one that churns out a massive 577HP.

A nine-speed gearbox with the brand’s 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system will be available as standard. Surprisingly, it is the Mercedes-AMG SL63 that can clock a triple-digit speed in just 3.6 seconds with a top speed rated at 315kmph.

Alternatives

Globally, the all-new AMG SL will compare with the well-known BMW M8 Convertible. Want to learn more about it? Check out all the details related to it down below.
