The sharp lines, sleek headlamps and massive kidney grille of the new gen M4 took longer than usual to grow on everyone’s eyes. However, now it feels much better, and the carmaker has made some more additions to the existing design to make the M4 range more appealing.

To begin with, the design inside the headlamps has been updated to give it a more aggressive look. Then there are several technology updates to the same making it more effective, especially during the night. The entire range with a hardtop roof now gets carbon-reinforced plastic to keep the overall weight in check. Similarly, the standard M4 Coupe and Convertible models feature 18-inch forged-light alloy wheels at the front and 19-inch wheels at the rear. The performance-oriented Competition models run on 1-inch larger wheels on either end. Not to forget, even the taillamps have been revised to bring a completely refreshed look overall.

Interior & Features

The makeover continues inside the cabin as well, and to begin with, the first change that one might be able to witness with bare eyes is the introduction of a new flat-bottomed steering wheel. The next change that can be seen is the revision of the centre console. It now features a red start-stop button, BMW iDrive Controller and M Mode buttons. Thankfully, the M sports seats are available as standard and can be adjusted electronically.

BMW has developed a 12.3-inch fully digital driver’s display and a 14.9-inch infotainment system for the updated M4. Available with the 8.5 BMW OS, it is one of the slickest systems made till date. Other features, such as a powerful surround sound system and wireless charger are also available depending on the customer’s requirement.

Engine, Transmission & Performance

The variants with a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine will be available with 530 horsepower, up by 20 horses when compared to the outgoing model. However, the torque output from the engine remains exactly the same at 650Nm. Sadly, the rear-wheel drive system has been dropped and is replaced by xDrive all-wheel drive system for improved grip and enough stability, enabling the new M4 range to clock a triple-digit speed in just 3.5 seconds to 3.7 seconds, depending upon the body type.

As standard, it features an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission as standard. However, this time, a 6-speed manual transmission has also made its debut on the M4.

Other Details

For customisation, the 2024 BMW M4 will also get M Carbon exterior package, M Race Track package and BMW M Performance Parts. Mostly, these changes are related to the design, features or focuses on performance.
