Citroën might not be a brand seen frequently on the Indian streets, but the French automaker has always tried something unconventional, something new. Earlier, we saw a camouflaged product from the brand being tested (codenamed C3X), and now, it was officially teased with the moniker it would be using. Called Citroën Basalt, the all-new Coupe SUV is all set to debut on 27th March as a concept.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Citroën Basalt was recently teased for the Indian market.
  • The Coupe SUV is expected to get a 1.2-litre petrol engine.
  • Might compete with the Tata Curvv in the near future.

Citroën Basalt: What to expect?

This time, it seems that Citroën is completely relying on the design and to be fair, the rear profile teased does look premium with a sloping roof line. The SUV is said to be based upon the CMP platform, similar to what we get on the C3 Aircross and other products from the Citroën lineup.

Until the unveiling tomorrow, expect the coupe SUV to feature a similar cabin to the C3 Aircross. Interestingly, the mechanicals also remain unchanged on the Basalt.

Speculations are there that it might get additional features and the carmaker might slot it against the Tata Curvv in the coming times.

Under the hood, Citroën Basalt is expected to get a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine known for producing 110 horsepower and 190Nm. The gearbox options can be both manual and automatic. Sadly, it seems Citroën is not in the mood to bring diesel engines for smaller products, and that’s why it is something customers will miss badly.

The expectations are high from the Basalt and we expect that the sloping roofline is well integrated. A lack of headroom results in a compromised product and does not excite a wider range of audience. Until the unveil, let’s wait to learn more about the new Basalt.
