Exterior and Design
Remember Jeep introduced Grand Cherokee L a few months ago? Well, this new five-seater version is based upon the same SUV. Of course, there are some updates in the form of the decreased length and some revised panels. But, this SUV also features several new elements to improve aerodynamic efficiency in the form of grille shutters and air curtains.
Talking about the front profile, it still features large LED headlamps with DRLs, a muscular bonnet hood, a sportier bumper and new fog lamp housing. It even uses a new set of alloy wheels to enhance the overall stance.
Interior
Inside the cabin, it feels just like the Grand Cherokee L – plush and premium. The last row has been removed to make it a typical five-seater. However, the dashboard still features a multi-function steering wheel, a fully digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display and an extra screen for the co-passenger. Other than this, it will also come with a wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, heads-up display, rear-seat entertainment system, etc among others.
Engine & Powertrain
There are too many options for almost every kind of customer. To begin with, Jeep has decided to continue offering a 3.6-litre V6 engine that churns out a decent 290HP and 352Nm as standard in the US market. However, customers are also free to opt for a powerful version that comes loaded with a 5.7-litre V8 engine with an overall output rated at 362PS and 529Nm.
So what’s new? Well, the updated range will also feature the brand’s latest 4xe technology. Therefore, it will be interesting to watch Grand Cherokee with 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines while being paired to an electric setup. The total output from this entire system currently stands at 381PS and 637Nm with an overall claimed range of somewhere around 712kms.
Alternatives
In India, the upcoming Jeep Meridian will compete against SUVs such as Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster. We know that the American brand will offer Grand Cherokee as a flagship SUV and therefore, right now, there are no direct rivals to it in India.
