Lotus is one of the best sports car manufacturers in the entire world. The perfect example to support this statement is that the British brand has already won around 13 Formula 1 world titles. Of course, Lotus is not restricted to track and therefore, we have witnessed some fascinating sports cars, including Elise, Evora and Exige in the past. Sadly, all three of them will be discontinued so that the next generation sports cars can enter the production phase. Still, wondering what’s the surprise? Yes, you guessed it right! It is the all-new Lotus Emira and Evija that will be coming soon.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Lotus to introduce new-generation sports car for the future.
  • Elise, Evora and Exige have been axed with a proper farewell.
  • Lotus Emira will be the first sports car to enter production.

Lotus Elise, Evora and Exige: Let’s Rewind

Until now, these three products pushed the overall growth of the brand to a great extent. According to the PR team, Lotus has manufactured around 51,738 units of Elise, Evora and Exige altogether in a span of 26 years. Surprisingly, the British marque was not restricted to their own production. In the past few years, they have even collaborated with many well-known car manufacturers such as Tesla and Vauxhall to offer crucial parts. The last unit of all three aforementioned models will be retained to showcase the brand’s rich heritage.

While celebrating this massive success, Matt Windle, MD, Lotus Group added, “I would like to convey enormous gratitude to all the customers of the Elise, Exige and Evora over the last 26 years for their passion, enthusiasm and support.”

Future: What to expect?

The upcoming Lotus Emira could be the last sports car from the brand to feature an internal combustion engine. This way, it is definitely special. The carmaker claims that initially, it will be powered b a 3.5-litre supercharged V6 engine sourced from Toyota. Surprisingly, Lotus has even collaborated with Mercedes-AMG and therefore, this new sportscar is also expected to get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine as soon as the ‘First Edition’ goes out of stock.

The new Emira is also practical, unlike most sports cars. Inside the cabin, this one is loaded with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Apart from this, Lotus has even introduced some modern aids, including 12-way electrically adjustable sports seats, a 10-speaker surround sound system and a fully digital instrument console for added practicality.

Evija on the other hand is a limited run electric sports car that was revealed back in July 2019. Being a track-oriented machine, it is equipped with four electric motors that work in conjunction with each other to propel a massive 1972 horsepower. According to our sources, Evija is already sold out for 2021.
