The launch of Mercedes-AMG SL was a game changer for the sportscar segment and now, with a similar (aggressive) mindset, Mercedes has again introduced one more practical AMG sportscar to extend the portfolio. It’s called Mercedes-AMG C 43 and to be precise, it is special because the sports saloon features an electric exhaust-gas turbocharger derived directly from Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 car.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Mercedes-AMG C 43 has finally made its debut in India.
  • Comes powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
  • Features technology from Mercedes’ Formula One W14 car.

Mercedes-AMG C 43: Here’s Everything You Need To Know

It is a power-packed C-Class and therefore shares the overall silhouette with the same. But just to make it a little more sporty, the carmaker has introduced a special AMG grille with vertical slats and a diffuser at the rear. Inside the cabin, the new C 43 features an AMG steering wheel covered in Nappa leather and to offer added convenience, it also gets aluminium paddle shifters. Other changes inside the cabin are in the form of red stitching on the door panels, seats and dashboard and edition-specific pedals and door sills are also a part of the offering.

There’s a lot to talk about the new C 43’s powertrain. To begin with, it gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, capable of producing 408 horsepower and 500Nm while being paired with a 9-speed AMG transmission. Then, the major update on this powertrain is the addition of the world’s first electric exhaust gas turbocharger. The Affalterbach-based brand boasts that this unit works at a very high speed enabling a high air flow rate.

In terms of performance, Mercedes-AMG C 43 can clock a triple-digit speed in just 4.6 seconds with a top speed rated at 250kmph.

Here the sports saloon also features the brand’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system for superior grip. Making it performance-specific is the adaptive dampers that can be controlled using three ride modes including Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus.

At the time of launch, Mr Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes Benz India, said, “The AMG C 43 4MATIC on the other hand is developed entirely at Affalterbach in accordance to the AMG famous ‘One Man One Engine’ philosophy making it highly exclusive. The vehicle’s state-of-the-art AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is the world’s first series-production unit to feature an electric exhaust gas turbocharger in the C-Class. The electric exhaust gas turbocharger guarantees spontaneous response across the entire rev range, offering a more dynamic driving experience than before. This system is a direct derivative of the F1 technology that the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team has been successfully using over the years. The C-Class remains an absolute success story for Mercedes-AMG and with the addition of AMG C43, customers now have on offer, a strong performance sedan in the segment.”

Priced at Rs.98 Lakh onwards (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new Mercedes-AMG C 43 is all set to boost the overall sales for the brand. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comment section below.
