Honda City, one of the longest-running models for the brand in India, has again received some crucial updates for MY2023. The mid-size sedan is currently in its fifth-generation avatar and is still the best-selling product for Honda Cars India Ltd.

The Indian counterpart of the Japanese brand has rolled out the updated City and City e:HEV today. Surprisingly, the revisions on the new model are on the outside, inside and even under the engine bay. So basically, there are a lot more changes than we would have expected. Want to learn more about the 2023 Honda City? Here are all the details related to the updated sedan down below.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 2023 Honda City has made its way to the Indian streets.
  • The carmaker has updated both City and City e:HEV.
  • Honda Sensing will be available in the new City as well.

2023 Honda City: What’s new?

Exterior

The changes are very subtle on the outside but they are there, that’s why discussing them does make sense. Starting with the front profile, it features a new sporty grille with a diamond chequered flag pattern. Then, the updates on the front bumper and fog lamp garnish further elevate the front section.

The side profile of the sedan remains more or less similar to the previous model. However, the introduction of a set of a completely revised 16-inch diamond cut, multi-spoke alloy wheels has infused a new identity to the mid-size sedan.

Talking about the rear section of the new City, it now gets a sporty bumper that incorporates a carbon black diffuser at the bottom. The sedan also comes with a body-coloured lip spoiler and there’s even an addition to the colour palette with a distinctive shade called Obsidian Blue Pearl.

Interior & Other Features

The cabin of the new Honda City feels plush and is still spacious like a typical mid-size sedan. Available in two different themes depending on the variant, the updates for 2023 are somewhat minimal when we talk about the overall changes inside. In terms of features, the new City is loaded up to the brim with gizmos like ambient lighting, a wireless charger, a more responsive infotainment system, etc.

However, the most crucial update on the updated car is the introduction of the Honda Sensing. Now coming to this feature, it is a package of advanced driver assist systems that include Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keep Assist, Road Departure Mitigation System and Auto Hight Beam among others.

Engine & Transmission

There is a possibility that Honda will not introduce the diesel motor at a later date. This way, currently there are two powertrains available on offer.

The first one is a standard petrol model that comes powered by a 1.5-litre iVTEC engine and is tuned to churn out an overall output of 121PS and 145Nm. Aimed at delivering astonishing performance and higher fuel efficiency, it is available with both manual as well as automatic transmissions with a fuel efficiency rated at 17.8kmpl and 18.4kmpl respectively.

Then there’s the second option and it is kind of unique in its own way. The City e:HEV will continue featuring the 1.5-litre Atkinson-Cycle iVTEC engine that works in conjunction with a self-charging two-motor hybrid system. The best part about this is that Honda has decided to continue offering three drive modes on the updated City e:HEV namely – EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive just like before.

Another interesting bit about the 2023 Honda City is that it is now powered by engines that are compliant with the latest emission norms and can run on E5 and E20 fuels as well.

Honda City is a crucial product for Honda Cars India Limited and with a history of 25 years and running, it has helped the brand in achieving some amazing feats within no time. The arrival of the updated model is surely going to help Honda in continuing its success story further. The Japanese brand has priced the 2023 Honda City between Rs.11.49 Lakhs to Rs.20.39 Lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
