The Employees Provident Fund Organisation have been said to gather the figures and data for individuals who have lost their jobs, salary or would face delay in the payments. It would work collaboratively with Employees State Insurance Corporation.

After the collection of the reports, it would be presented to the Prime Minister’s office so that a quick solution can be thought.  This initiative has been taken after the current outbreak of coronavirus has created fear among the working group of people.  Layoffs, salary reduction, cancelling of offer letters are some of the aspect of it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been continuously requesting to the employers, to be considerate to all the employees.

On April 14, when PM made his recent address to the nation, this was included as his 7-point advisory. Prior to this, on PM’s request ministry had come up with an advisory to employers to not remove or cut off salaries of the employees working for them.

Officials have stated they know about this matter and they have started looking into it. Since the salary is paid either on last day of April or May 7, it will hold a special attention of all the ministry.

The group of people working for this exercise is comparatively large. Including the pensioners, EPFO has currently around 60 million of subscribers whereas ESIC has near about 30 million of subscribers.

Total of 500 million people come under the workforce of India, only 10% of the total work for the organised sector. Government has been coming up with several palns to provide relief to the employees.
