STARTUP MISGOVERNANCE: BharatPe’s Founder Ashneer Grover likely to face Fraud ChargesCourtesy: StarsUnfolded

BharatPe’s co-founder and Managing Director, Ashneer Grover’s problems are not coming to an end. He is totally in a soup wherein he is being investigated for fraud charges and likely going to be fired from his own company. After appearing as one of the shark’s on a famous reality TV Show of Sony Entertainment Shark Tank, he has become a household name. He is also  joined by other sharks on the show with likes of Lenskart’s Peyush Bansal, Emcure Pharmaceuticals’ Namita Thapar, MamaEarth’s Ghazal Alagh, Shaadi.com’s Anupam Mittal, boAt’s Aman Gupta and SUGAR Cosmetics’ Vineeta Singh. He is known for his blunt comments and straightforward answers on the show.

BharatPe has hired a new law firm for investigation into this matter whose results are expected to come in the upcoming two months, as suggested by  the report of Live Mint . The report also  quotes two sources which have been  attached with the process. Madhuri Jain, Ashneer’s wife, has also been fired who is the head of controls at BharatPe, a source told Live Mint.“At times, the company did try to look at hiring a qualified CFO (chief financial officer), but Grover turned down that decision,” the source quoted. Before joining the Company, Madhuri ran a fashion boutique.

However, Company refutes the claim of firing 15 employees and said in a statement,“The board of BharatPe has not terminated the services of any employee at this stage. Reports suggesting any termination are baseless and untrue. The board remains committed to an independent and thorough audit process. No action has been taken or will be taken till the audit has been completed. We again urge the media not to speculate in advance of the report and make a judgement based on uninformed sources.”

Ashneer Grover’s behaviour has been in focus for all the wrong reasons since Jan. 6, when an audio recording of his allegedly threatening a Kotak Group employee surfaced on social media.
