Three Indian institutes have made it into the top 100 of the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia university ranking for 2021.  This institutes are IISC Banglore, IIT Ropar and IIT indore. IISC has secured 37th rank in Asia with being at First rank in India. None of the indian institute are in the elite top 10.

There are total 18 indian universities included in the top 200. IIT Ropar is ranked at 55 with IIT Indore being at 78th position. Similarly like previous year, chinese universities have secured the top two podiums. Japan with 5 universities has most number of ranks in top 10.

The Tsinghua University of china stands at the top of this list for two consecutive years. While the second position is also conquered by china’s Peking university. The third and fifth positions in the top 10 are held by universities of singapore. The remaining one rank is goes to hong kong university.

The ranking of this universities is based on a brief survey conducted in the listed institutes by the Times Asia Organization. This survey evaluates on the basis of parameters like teaching and learning methodology, research progress, international contribution and collaborative works.

In the previous year, seven IITs including the renowned IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur and IIT Roorkee decided to withdraw themselves from this listing. The institutes cited the reason that ranking process and parameters lacks transparency and fair conduct.

The Ranking Editor for Times Asia organization, Ellie Bothwell said that several countries has suffered a financial crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, some institutes from this countries are still processing developments. They are also receiving additional funds for centre.

Other then the three institutes earlier mentioned, the few central universities which are in the top 200 are JNU, Jamia Milia Islamia, Banaras Hindu University, SBP Pune University and Amrita VV. IIT gandhi nagar, IIT Hyderabad and IIIT Delhi are also ranked among them.
