The government of maharashtra has decided to postpone all the exams for undergraduate medical and health science courses including MBBS till June 10. Previously, The exams were to be held from June 2. This is the third consecutive postponement of exams from April 19.

The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has already conducted the final year exams of the the Medical and health science courses. Now the exams for 40,000 students of intermediate years of this courses will be held between June 10 to June 30.

The decision was taken on wednesday in a meeting chaired by the Minister of Health Education, Amit Deshmukh with official of the university and the exam controller Ajit Pathak.

The decision was made due to the rapidly rising COVID-19 cases and lockdown-like restrictions enforced in the state till June 1. Thus it would be a challenge for the students to reach the exam centres on June 2 or if the lockdown is extended further.

After the meeting, Mr. Deshmukh interacted with the media and said that, “The exams for undergraduate – MBBS and other health science courses will take place on June 10 to 30. The decision comes in the wake of increased COVID cases coupled with restrictions in Maharashtra. The state enforced restricted lockdown till June 1. In the wake of these restrictions, it was felt that students would have faced problems travelling to their exam centres.”

The decision is not less then a relief for undergraduate medical students. Since maharashtra is one of the worst affected states by the Corona Virus pandemic, most of the exams including boards, college or entrance exams for this year are being cancelled or postponed till situations normalise.

Due to such difficult conditions and uncertainty in the dates of exams, a lot of students were facing anxiety issues and exam pressure. A fair decision on exams has proved to be stress buster, claimed parents.
