The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) have planned to reduce certain criterion for admissions this. The Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said that this decision has been taken as the pending exams of class 12 have been cancelled. But to get into IIT the student must necessarily pass the class 12 exam.

The Union minister tweeted that “Due to the partial cancellation of class XII exams by several Boards, Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for #JEE (Advanced) 2020 qualified candidates this time. Qualified candidates who have passed class XII examinations will now be eligible for admissions irrespective of marks obtained.”

As per the new regulations, the students should secure at least 75% or be at the top 20 percentile in his/her class 12 board results. This is applicable after clearing the IIT-JEE Advanced.

Several board exams have been cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic. These include CBSE, CISCE and other state boards. The marks have been evaluated based on the average marks of the best-performing subjects of the cancelled exams.

IIT-Delhi is conducting the JEE Advanced this year. The exam will be held on September 27 and the results are likely to be released in a week. In addition to that, the counselling is likely to take place in six rounds instead of seven.
