This year the National Institute of Technology (NIT) and Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) has relaxed certain eligibility criteria for admissions. This has been taken due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal tweeted that “JEE Main 2020 qualified candidates will now only need to obtain a passing certificate in class 12 examination irrespective of the marks obtained.”

As per the new regulation, a student must have minimum of 75% or should be in top 20 percentile of her class 12 board results along with clearing the JEE Main. The SC/ST candidates should possess a minimum of 65% or should fulfill the top 20 percentile requirement.

Previously the Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) decided to reduce certain rules to ensure smooth admission amidst coronavirus pandemic. The CBSE also cancelled the exams in this regard.

Also, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) is planning to hold JEE (advanced) in centres abroad. This came into consideration as “in the context of restrictions imposed by COVID19 outbreak”.

IITs have been conducting the entrance exam for international students at Dhaka, Dubai, Kathmandu and Singapore.
