According to the release, by a State School Education and Sports Department on Friday, now onwards not just the government employees but teachers will also be allowed to avail benefits of the 7th Pay Commission.

Full-time teachers/ teaching staff in private (primary, secondary, and higher secondary) schools, junior colleges, teachers’ colleges, and military schools are reported to receive upgraded pay school from now onwards in accordance with the Commission.

This is the first time that teachers will be receiving a salary according to the 7th Pay Commission, says Education Minister Vinod Tawde. The implementation of the Commission for the senior college teachers and Mumbai University Teachers is yet to be announced.

“A state government committee has submitted a report to the state regarding revision of pay for university teachers. No decision on the matter is indicative of the state’s priority towards higher education,” said Dr. Balaji Kendre, president of University of Mumbai Academic Staff Association.

Kendre added none of the recruitment has been conducted in the university, hence these teachers were given the least priority. He informed that regulations in the commission gets implemented first for the staff of central universities and then state universities.

It has been reported, UGC issued a formal notification stating the implementation of the changes in the 7th Pay Commission will come into effect from July 1, 2019.

The Department of Expenditure, headed under UGC is responsible for providing the hiked salaries to Teachers, equivalent academic staff, registrars, finance officers and controllers of examination in Central universities and colleges as well as deemed universities. The UGC notice read universities and colleges shall implement the 7th Pay Commission for teachers practicing in the respective institutions.
