During the Third General Meeting of the Mangalore University on Friday, the Academic Council of the University approved 36 papers under the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). The University Grants Commission has offered them on their SWAYAM portal, and as ordered by the HRD Ministry, the University is promoting MOOC newly approved courses under various departments and respective fields.

There are various papers introduced under science and technology for students to choose at the meeting conducted on January 5 which include three papers for MSc (food science and nutrition), two for BSc (FND), three papers for MSc (Food Science and Technology), five papers for BSc (food technology), three for MSc (biotechnology) and three papers for biotechnology (optional).

Similarly, the papers that were introduced under the faculty of commerce at the meeting held on January 7 include three papers each for MBA first and second-semester students and five for third semester and four for the fourth semester. They also approved two papers for Travel and Tourism Management, hospitality management and PGDTHM students.

AM Khan, the registrar said “Undergraduate Students can opt for these papers under MOOC in the fourth semester for open elective and postgraduate students in place of softcore or elective paper. Both undergraduate and postgraduateĀ students on their own volition may also take up these online MOOC and earn extra credits.”

As the SWAYAM (Study Web of Active Learning by Young and Aspiring Minds) portal got introduced for online education, these courses aim at imparting education through online mode.
