With the recent orders issued by the HRD Ministry of implementing 10% reservation for Economically Backward Section Category under General Category and also increasing intake by 25% for better implementation, the Jawaharlal Nehru University has agreed to increase their intake of children by 25% for the Economically Backward Section students without hampering the already reserved seats for minority category.

This decision came into effect due to the issue of notice by the HRD Ministry to the JNU regarding ‘Reservation for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) for admission in Central Educational Institutions’ for requesting the university to make the required changes to accommodate the new category as soon as possible before January 31.

The implementation of the order was initiated after a detailed meeting of the vice-chancellor, rectors and the director of admissions with the deans of schools and chairpersons of the special centers on January 28 to discuss the steps for better implementation of increasing their intake.

JNU met the deadline effectively and submitted a comprehensive outline of infrastructural requirements and new faculty positions necessary for implementing the order of increasing 25% intake in the university, says Chintamani Mahapatra, rector-I of the University.
