Uday Samant, Maharashtra Minister of Higher and Technical Education, stated in a letter to the University Grants Commission that the state will promote all the college students except those in final years without the exam.

He further requested the UGC to even promote the final years of undergrad and postgraduates without exams.

The state government has formed a committee to decide on the promotion of students based on the UGC’s guidelines. They submitted the report on May 6.

The promotion for the students without exams was taken in view that conducting exams amidst lockdown is difficult. So the students will be promoted in consideration of other parameters. Mr.Samant also requested the same for final year students.

In a report to the press he said that it is difficult to conduct the exams for 8 to 9 lakh students following all the safety protocols. Also the students are not in a healthy state of mind to write the exams as the virus cases are increasing day by day. Hence he asks the UGC to consider his request
