After releasing the first song Nok Jhok around two weeks ago, the makers of the upcoming film Chhapaak have released the title track of the film. While the first song was a light-hearted soothing romantic number, the new song is heart-wrenching and is more of a sincere reflection of the story of the film.

Titled Chaapak, the song has meaningful lyrics penned by the renowned poet Gulzar. Starting with the powerful words Koi chehra mita ke aur aankh se hata ke, chand chheetey uda ke jo gaya, Chhapaak se pehchan le gaya, the song encapsulates the whole idea of film in few lines. Composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, the title track has been sung by Arijit Singh.

Deepika Padukone took to her social media accounts to share the song and wrote, The soul of Chhapaak. Chhapaak Title Track.”

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal who was attacked at the age of 15 by a 32 years old man.

“Deepika is going to be a revelation in Chhapaak. It is a completely different side of Deepika which people will see. When I say that I don’t mean just the look or prosthetics, it’s also about going into the second level of the character – the body language, the gestures and the general energy,” Gulzar told news agency PTI in November last year.

Written by Meghna Gulzar and Atika Chohan, the film is produced  by Fox Star Studios, Deepika Padukone, Govind Singh Sandhu, and Meghna Gulzar. Deepika Padukone will play Malti, a character inspired from Agarwal whereas Vikrant Massey will be seen as Amol, a social activist (and later Malti’s partner) inspired by the real life character of Alok Dixit.

Chhapaak is scheduled to be theatrically released in India on 10 January next year.
