The actress Deepika Padukone is all set to portray the role of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in her next film ‘Chhapaak’. The film is helmed by ‘Raazi’ director Meghna Gulzar which will be a productional debut for Deepika. The actress who played the most beautiful queen that ever lived in India in her last film ‘Padmaavat’, will be seen in an imperceptible avatar. The director Meghna Gulzar has confirmed that the actress will be seen as a disfigured embodier and the filmmaker also added that through this film people will know what violence can do to one person.
The director confirmed the news at Lit For Life 2019 event in Chennai, Meghna said, “You won’t be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured Deepika. There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika.”
Last December, Deepika announced the name of the film on her Instagram with a post that read, “A story of trauma and triumph and the unquashable human spirit.” ‘Chhapaak’ will also feature an actor from film ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, Vikrant Massey, who will portray Deepika’s partner.

The acid attack survivor Laxmi was interviewed by a leading daily when quizzed about Deepika playing her role, she said, “I am so happy that Deepika is playing the role. I have no right to judge her. How can I judge someone for something which I can’t do? She has played wonderful characters on screen and I believe she will give her best.”
‘Chhapaak’ will be Deepika’s first film after she tied knots with longtime beau, Ranveer Singh in last November in Italy.
