The Walt Disney Company’s animated film Frozen 2, has crossed the $1 billion mark at the box-office globally, thus becoming the sixth release by the studio to achieve this feat, according to The Hollywood Reporter

A sequel to 2013’s Frozen, the film is directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the duo who had directed the previous film. It has grossed $366.5 million domestically and $666 million internationally, making a total worldwide collection of $1.032 billion. It has become the eighth film in 2019 to cross this mark. 

In the overseas market, China made most number of profit for the film ($111.5 million), followed by South Korea ($85.4 million), Japan ($67.3 million), UK ($49.6 million), Germany ($39.9 million) and France ($37 million).

The film stars Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, reprising their voices for Princess Anna and Queen Elsa respectively. Its predecessor had grossed a total of $1.276 billion and won various accolades including two Academy Awards. 

The other films of this year that reached the billion mark are Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Captain Marvel, Toy Story 4, Aladdin and Joker

Frozen 2 was released theatrically on 22 November, on the weekend before Thanksgiving, which also helped in filling the seats.
