Actors with urban sensibilities not being appreciated on TV: Ekta Kapoor!

The Indian television and film producer Ekta Kapoor says an actor with urban sensibilities not being appreciated on television. She is the also the managing director and creative director of Balaji Telefilms. Ekta has produced many television series and movies such as ‘Hum Paanch’, ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki’, ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’, ‘Pavitra Rishta’, ‘Bade Acche Lagte Hain’, ‘Jodha Akbar, ‘Naagin’, ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’, ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, ‘Kavach’ , ‘Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki’ and ‘Kundali Bhagya.’ She even co-produced many films.

Recently, Ekta Kapoor says that the main reason to launch the digital space with video streaming service ALT Balaji is that because the small screen was not appreciating the actors with urban sensibilities. At the trailer launch of ALT Balaji’s new web show “Bose: Dead/Alive”, when asked to share her thoughts about the digital space and the reason for introducing her soap actors and the actress to the platform. Ekta said, “We are doing a new show with Rajiv Khandelwal and there are tonnes of other big names coming. I would love to rejoin with my actors, but the issue is television has become very mass, and actors with urban sensibilities weren’t being appreciated on television, so we were waiting for a medium where we could do short format shows with them.”

Ekta Kapoor’s new web series titled “Bose: Dead/Alive”, features actor Rajkummar Rao in the titular role and the series will be based on the subject of the legendary freedom fighter Subash Chandra Bose. About her upcoming web series, Ekta said, “Thank God I got a chance to tell such stories. You wouldn’t believe the number of stories we have and wanted to tell, but due to lack of short format on television, we couldn’t. Digital space has given me, as a creative person, the second lease of life. I am eternally grateful to be able to tell these stories.”

The creative director of the show, Hansal Mehta was also present at the trailer launch and said that the web series is based on the book but they have taken certain liberties with story-telling, which would add more respect for the freedom fighter. About this creative director, Hansal Mehta said, “We have taken certain liberties. Keeping Netaji (Subhas Chandra Bose) in mind, keeping the respect for the man intact, keeping the research in mind, we have taken certain liberties. I think with these liberties, Netaji will come even close to your hearts.”

The web series titled “Bose: Dead/ Alive” has been directed by Pulkit and the series features Rajkummar Rao and actress Patralekhaa, who will be seen playing the role of an elitist Bengali woman. The series will air on ALT Balaji.
