1. Wanted to withdraw from Miss India Pageant 1994
Sushmita Sen wanted to withdraw her application from Miss India 1994 beauty pageant when she found that Aishwarya Rai had also participated. However, Sen won the pageant, and Aishwarya bagged the runner-up title.
2. Didn’t wear a designer outfit for Miss Universe Pageant
Sushmita didn’t wear a designer gown for the Miss Universe beauty pageant in 1994. Instead, her dress was stitched by a Delhi-based local tailor as she couldn’t afford an expensive designer gown. Even the pair of gloves she wore for the final round were made of socks trimmed by her mother.
3. Adoption- Better than the biological one!
Sushmita adopted a girl child Renee when she was 24. While the other Bollywood divas were busy with marriage and babies, Sush opted for adoption.
While explaining to her daughter what adoption means, she says, “Biological is boring… everybody is born from somebody’s stomach. Why would you want that? You’re special because you are born from the heart!” Later she also adopted her second child, Alisah.
