The Hong Kong protesters have boycotted the Chinese martial arts film Ip Man 4: The Finale after its producers Raymond Wong and lead actors Donnie Yen and Danny Chan took a pro-China stance, according to The Hollywood Reporter

The film, which is the fourth installment in the Ip Man franchise, has been performing well in China, Taiwan and at the Singapore box-office.

In Hong Kong, amidst the ongoing protests, the film has grossed $660,000 since its release, taking second place after Disney’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The users of LIHKG forum are not only boycotting the film but are also actively spoiling its storyline for others on social media platforms under the ‘Ip Man Challenge’. Handy placards are being distributed on the streets with major plot points written on them in English or Chinese with the hashtag #boycottIpMan4.

The ongoing protests are demonstrated on the streets of Hong Kong after the Fugitive Offenders amendment bill was introduced by the Hong Kong government. The bill would have allowed the extradition of criminal fugitives who are wanted in territories with which Hong Kong does not currently have extradition agreements, including Taiwan and mainland China.

Both Yen and Wong have often expressed their pro-China stance on several occasions.

Ip Man 4: The Finale released theatrically on 20th December.
