Multi starrer period drama ‘Kalank‘ witnessed a slight growth on the third day. Trade pundits were expecting a big jump on Friday due to holiday but the film showed no such rise.

The second was also bad as Thursday was a working day, so according to the trade pundits, the fall was expected but this drop of about 50% is much higher than anticipated.

With ₹21.60 crores on its opening day, ‘Kalank’ emerged at the biggest opener of 2019 but had a terrible second day with just half the number, ₹11.45 crores. On Friday it only managed to earn ₹11.60 crores. However, the film stands with ₹44.65 crores in its account in just three days.

About the film’s third day collection, Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Kalank sees minimal growth on Day 3 [#GoodFriday holiday]… Big jump is clearly missing… Plexes better, mass circuits ordinary/weak… Now dependent on Sat and Sun to add to the total… Wed 21.60 cr, Thu 11.45 cr, Fri 11.60 cr. Total: ₹ 44.65 cr. India biz.”

The film narrates a complex love story of Roop (Alia Bhatt) and Zafar (Varun Dhawan).

The story is set a few years before India Pakistan partition, in a city called Husnabad. The small town is populated by blacksmiths, where lives the most affluent family, the “Chaudharys”. The father and son duo Dev (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Balraj (Sanjay Dutt) Chaudhary run a liberal newspaper called The Daily News. Under some unexpected circumstances, Dev is married to Roop. The relationship is just based on compromise and not love, which leads to Roop falling in love with a local blacksmith Zafar.

The love which is blossoming between Roop and Zafar will never be accepted in the society to which they belong but what is love if not complex?
