If the beginning is good then the end should be fascinating. The organizers of the 2020 New York Film Festival are going to ensure this, as they are going to premiere Hollywood star, Michelle Pfeiffer’s upcoming film French Exit. The film based on Canadian novelist, Patrick DeWitt’s best-selling novel of the same name, also stars Lucas Hedges.

What is the film going to be about?

The French Exit is about Frances Price (Pfeiffer) a New York socialite, who discovers her husband’s dead body in their bedroom and then goes for skiing for the weekend. After that, she along with her son, Malcolm (Hedges) sell their objects and goes to Paris, to start a new life.

Patrick Dewitt has written the screenplay of the film, with Azazel Jacobs set to direct. The Festival director, Eugene Hernandez had Jacobs in his sights ever since he saw his film, Momma’s Man at the New Directors Festival at the Lincoln Center in 2008.

On the other hand, the opening film at the festival is Steve Mcqueen’s, Lovers Rock. It is a part of Mcqueen’s Small Axe anthology of five original films, which will premiere on BBC One later this year and Amazon Prime in the U.S.

Talking about the French Exit, Eugene had said :

“Now, we’re honored that he’ll make his NYFF debut with closing night selection French Exit, a tour-de-force collaboration with Michelle Pfeiffer that we can’t wait to share with audiences in NYC and beyond.”

While last week, the organizers had announced, Frances McDormand’s film, Nomadland as the centerpiece film of the festival.

If a film having Michelle Pfeiffer doesn’t intrigue you, we don’t know what will. The festival is clearly looking like an enjoyable one.
