Padmaavat originally scheduled for a release on 1st December 2017, found itself in an impending controversy that extended for over a month and as a result the film’s release was postponed temporarily.

The film finally released today, the 25th of January. However, there were paid previews of the film available across Indian theaters on the evening of 24th January. And to take everyone by surprise, even after all the major hue and cry over the film’s release by Karni Sena and others, the film managed to sell out most of its tickets for the preview.

The film’s collection solely through paid previews is somewhere around 5 Crores, which already speaks volumes about it’s future success.

Padmaavat was originally titled Padmavati, and was based on a poem of Malik Muhammad Jayasi with the same name. However, controversies and chaos lead to the Film Certification Board making 5 cuts, and also renaming the film. The film is the story of the queen of Mewar, Rani Padmavati, who is  highly respected and worshiped among the Rajputs, for her ‘jauhar’ pratha.

Padman, the Akshay Kumar starrer was slated for a release on 26th January 2018. However, Akshay Kumar voluntarily cleared the slot and shifted its release date to 9th February, to promote goodwill and encourage the success of  both films.

However, now that the film is making such good money, we hope that all those protesting against it can see the bright side and accept the film.
